Letter
from the
President of the Foundation.
December 2008
Dear Friends,
2008 has been a year of great political and economic turbulence in the world, and one of extraordinary cohesiveness and opportunity for RSF. It is in troubled times that people question the status quo and seek for new cultural narratives and answers to old problems newly dramatized and crucially important. We intend to provide them what they are now open to see.
You who have already “seen the cat” have also shown interest in the work of the Foundation or attended a conference of the Council of Georgist Organizations, of which RSF is a member. In response to your interest in the Georgist philosophy and movement, we are pleased to enclose both a copy of our new Economic Justice and Tax Reform Complete Catalogue 2008-2009 that includes a comprehensive list and description of the Georgist materials we publish and/or distribute. It also includes a center insert from The American Journal of Economics and Sociology with all the AJES books and special issues on Georgist themes or on other topics equally relevant to the Journal’s mission of synthesis in the social sciences inspired by the pioneering work of Henry George.
Our catalogue also publicizes The End of Poverty?- the new RSF film produced with Cinema Libre Studio. Already featured at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and more than a dozen other festivals worldwide, it was also previewed at the CGO Conference in Kansas City, July, 2008, and at RSF’s annual retreat in New York, November, 2008.
The End of Poverty? has been further edited since last Summer and will be released to the public in selected movie theaters in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles in March or April, 2009. We hope it will play in other major US cities as well, and expect it to be featured at public events such as the annual “Artists for Peace” festival in Norwalk, CT. A DVD version will later be distributed via retail outlets. Enclosed is a publicity card to remind you to be on the lookout. We can send upon request a moderate supply of additional cards and catalogues that you can share with your friends.
We also enclose a response form with some new titles published after the catalogue was released. The form includes options you can select in response to the work and message of RSF. As always, we thank you for your interest and support, both intellectual and financial. Never have they been more important.
Best wishes for 2009,
Adele Wick Mark A. Sullivan
Board President Administrative Director
